DONIZETTI E LE ISTITUZIONI DI ROMA: STORIA DI UNA CONGIURA, ALL’OMBRA DI TIBERIO
Taking L’esule di Roma as its starting point, this encounter journeys into Ancient Rome as reimagined by Donizetti and his contemporaries. The opera provides a lens through which to explore the institutions, power structures and social dynamics of Roman society, while highlighting the elements of Roman law woven into its plot and characters.
Bringing together history, music and law, the discussion reconstructs the political and legal landscape of Imperial Rome and considers its nineteenth-century reinterpretation, creating a dialogue between the historical realities of the age of Tiberius and the vision of antiquity conveyed by Donizetti and brought to life by the Festival.
