Roma in scena. Il costume teatrale tra Classicità e Ottocento
A conference exploring costume in musical theatre during the first half of the nineteenth century and the ways in which Ancient Rome was imagined and brought to life on stage in Donizetti’s time.
At the heart of the discussion are the original costume designs for the first production of L’esule di Roma, considered alongside history painting in Paris, Milan and Naples. This comparison sheds light on the sources and principles that informed the historically grounded reconstruction of the costumes now on display at the Teatro Donizetti.
