Lo Specchio della Regina
The famous Snow White fairy tale this time features two unlikely characters: a Queen tired of always having to be “the fairest of them all” and her Mirror who, tired of always having to repeat “what everyone else is doing” will seek a way out.
The Queen, orphaned by her mirror image, will therefore have to find a way to win back the Mirror's trust. An exciting tale that takes apart and reassembles one of the most famous fairy tales of all time, giving us a whole new perspective on the beauty of diversity.
The choreography by Eleonora Chiocchini reinterprets the theatrical text by Antonio Viganò Bianca & Neve, already staged and translated into several languages: the Mirror and the Queen come alive in a dance of relationships, playful nuances, at times quarrelsome, at times mysterious, colour their dialogue that will become body. Always as complicit as only a mirror and the image it reflects can be.
Director's Notes
Theatre la Ribalta-Kunst der Vielfalt will be 10 years old in 2023. We celebrate this birthday by looking back, to see how much we have achieved and what traces and signs of this adventure remain. This looking back serves us to see ahead, to understand and then design a near future.
The Festival Bolzano Danza, co-producer of the show, has played an important role in our short but intense history: the first show, The Minotaur, was born with the Festival's complicity, as was the show The Sound of the Fall, a show created by choreographer Julie Anne Stanzak, a historic dancer of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. This is why our return to the Bolzano Dance Festival has a special flavour.
The show is also intended for an audience of children and adolescents because we want to meet the new generations, our future. An audience, that of children, that knows body language well and will meet, thanks to this show, performers, dancers and actors from different backgrounds, who will reveal to them that being called “different” is not something less, a lack, but another possibility, another way, full of poetry, truth and capacity.
