The Ghost Singer-Songwriter
Who is the author?
At a time in history when the use of artificial intelligence has opened up a wide-ranging discussion on the role of the author and creativity, this show is a pataphysical investigation into authorship. Who really is the author of an opera?
Through the biography of the singer-songwriter A.F., passing through numerous musical plagiarisms and figures such as the Beatles, Jorge Luis Borges, Shakespeare, we search for an answer that in reality perhaps does not exist.
A.F.
She was a singer-songwriter from Veneto, born in 1923 and disappeared from the scene in 1969.
Her artistic career was unfortunate: all the songwriters she met appreciated her songs and many plagiarised them. Those plagiarisms gave birth to great masterpieces of Italian music and not only; from Domenico Modugno to Lucio Battisti, from Luigi Tenco to Patti Smith, everything was written by A. F., but no one knows it and she is remained a ghost.
Synopsis
This is an incredible and surprising story, which starts from a rare book found by chance: a long interview with an unknown singer-songwriter who is the real author of hugely successful songs. Thanks to the interview, Talarico traces her history, her movements between Rome, Genoa and Milan, her relationship with many famous songwriters (Modugno, Paoli, De André, Conte…) who plagiarised her songs, up to her retirement from the stage and the disappearance of this gigantic but forgotten figure. How was his disappearance possible? And again: how do the creative mechanisms work, how does an idea work, who can really call themselves the author of something?
Ivan Talarico is an imaginary character created by Ivan Talarico. For years, he has been writing and performing plays, readings and concerts. He was a guest at Premio Tenco 2016 and won the prize for best lyrics at Musicultura 2015. He has published two books of poems, one of short stories and a record of songs. He conducts creative writing workshops in several Italian cities, collaborating with cultural associations, schools, academies and prisons. He is one of the founders of the theatre format “Sgombro” and co-author and co-host of the Radio Rai3 programme “Le ripetizioni”.
