L’Arte della Commedia
The questions, doubts, responsibilities, constraints and weaknesses that Eduardo puts forward concern us all and that “Theatre”, be it a theatre company, a community or a small world, becomes the resonator of our relationship with power and with the need to be heard and above all recognised.
«Come to the theatre Mr. Prefect! – says the playwright Oreste Campese – In theatre, the supreme truth è has been and always will be the supreme fiction…» everything starts here. How much can the distance and the filter of theatre, through fiction, help us face reality?
L’arte della commedia, the extraordinary and brilliant work by Eduardo De Filippo is part of “giorni dispari”, the collection that – from different angles – tackles the difficult issues of everyday life. Incredible è is the strength and topicality of the text that brings us face to face with the mortification and censorship of culture.
Written in 1964 – ambiguous and at the same time farcical – it is a little-visited work, apparently less explosive than the most famous masterpieces; it is instead a masterful text, wide-ranging and extraordinarily imperfect, just as imperfect is the human being in search of his identity, of his right to exist, in short, in search of answers to those pressing and necessary questions that cannot wait any longer.
