Thursday 14 May 2026, 6.00 p.m. | Sala Musica – Teatro Donizetti Around RICCARDO III The meeting is coordinated by Maria Grazia Panigada |
All the talent and extraordinary strength of Maria Paiato meet Shakespeare's Riccardo III. A project strongly desired by the Venetian actress, which has now come to life thanks to an understanding with the director Andrea Chiodi: a correspondence in the look at the text that sees Paiato in the role of King Richard the usurper, the evil genius, the type of cruel, Machiavellian politician, most often targeted by Elizabethan theatre. His will be an interpretation of the male role that aims to restore a Shakespeare faithful to the original.
“Now the winter of our discontent has become glorious summer under this sun of York”: this is how the Bard’s tragedy, one of the most famous works, opens, divided into five acts, which recounts the rise to the throne and the sudden fall of the wicked Richard, Duke of Gloucester. At the centre of the play is the figure of Richard: in a deformed physique, he embodies an indomitable negative force, and his loyalty to his destiny arouses, despite the cruelty of the character, an undeniable fascination.
