Of the children concludes the trilogy In the name of the father, the mother, the children, trying to think about that strange extended generation of “young” between 18 and 45 years old who have no intention of resigning from the role of son. Not all of them, fortunately, and not everywhere. But in Italy they are, and they are many.
A home that è limbo, that è purgatory, for anyone who passes through it. Lives in transit that stay as long as necessary – a day or even a lifetime – they pay a derisory, black rent and this leaves them free to choose how long to stay, when to go. Only one has ever stayed there: Gaetano, the owner of the rent. At the moment, there are four lives in the house. We see all the rooms as if the walls were transparent. The house is fluid, like the lives in it. The only certainties are four designer monitors, white, like huge smartphones. On each of them stand, looming, the families of origin of the inhabitants: parents, sisters, cousins…

One of the great anthropological changes of our time concerns the chronicisation of adolescence. Whereas before, youth was linked to puberty and ended with the end of adolescence, today adolescence is no longer a psychological reflection of the psychosexual storm of puberty, but a perpetual condition of life that tends to become chronic.When this happens, in the foreground is the son's difficulty in accepting the separation from his parents in order to recognise and experience himself as an adult. Mario Perrotta's new play investigates these and other nuances of being a son sine die, without forgetting the strength, splendour and extraordinary audacity of youth.
