Ti presento il Donizetti

For over two centuries, the Teatro Donizetti has not only been a venue for performances or a building in Lower Bergamo, but also part of the city’s identity and a space for collective history. It is a story waiting to be told, one that you can feel part of. Introducing the Donizetti is a journey through the history and rooms of the renovated Teatro Donizetti, but also through the varied world of theatre as a whole. The tour, which during the 2025 Festival begins at the Donizetti Studio with the exhibition Caterina Cornaro experience, includes access to the Historical Foyer, the Theatre Hall, the Ridotto Gavazzeni, the boxes, and the Noble Rooms. Framing the journey is the figure of Gaetano Donizetti himself and the story behind the dedication of the city’s most important theatre to his name. The history of the theatre is intertwined with the many stories of those behind the scenes or on stage: singers, orchestra members, stagehands, electricians, hairdressers, tailors and many others. The tour stimulates not only the ability to listen, but also to observe with a particular focus on the beauty of the decorations and surroundings. Space is reserved for the illustration of the recent restoration and some of the most significant innovations: useful information to convey the idea of the theatre as something alive and constantly evolving. It is therefore a place where you can not only watch performances and concerts as a spectator, but also a space for relationships and encounters, as it has always been from the stages to the Ridotto.
It is a spatial journey, but not only that: it touches the emotions because the theatre itself is emotion.
