NICHOLAS LECCHI ”Yugen Maki”

Born in the summer of 2020 from the meeting between drummer Lorenzo Beltrami and saxophonist Nicholas Lecchi, Yugen Maki brings together some talented young jazz musicians from Bergamo. The original duo works on a repertoire of original music that draws its inspiration from modern jazz sounds influenced by grooves grooves in the wake of contemporary giants such as Chris Potter and Donny McCaslin. The idea was soon joined by Chiara Arnoldi, a very young bass player, and pianist Alex Crocetta, who introduced new influences and enriched the sound of the project.

Yugen-Maki's music is therefore a melting pot of different styles and listenings, but with a common and precise vision: the rhythm section creates compelling grooves, juggling regular and odd metrics, while the keyboards generate evocative and captivating harmonies on which Nicholas Lecchi's saxophone soars, weaving captivating and never banal melodies. Everything ranges from contemporary jazz to new soul and funk, with a few brushstrokes of progressive music.
