LA VIA DEL FERRO

The Iron Way

The Iron Way, or if you like in English The Iron Way, è certainly an unusual name for a jazz group, but one reason why è was chosen: The quartet is made up of four musicians of different nationalities who have identified the name of the ancient road that connected Tuscany, specifically Follonica, with London, the “iron way” precisely, as their common geographical identifying trait. In fact, the double bass player Michelangelo Scandroglio, born in 1996, already a pupil of Ares Tavolazzi for jazz and Gabriele Ragghianti for classical double bass, has his roots in Tuscany. Today he is based in London, as is the Roman keyboardist Maria Chiara Argir, another prodigious Italian talent in export format. From New Zealand comes drummer Myele Manzanza, who, after making a name for himself in his homeland, has landed in the United Kingdom, where he has made a name for himself with his overwhelming rhythmic verve, while saxophonist Alex Hitchcock, one of the most prominent names in the new wave of British Jazz, is a native of the British capital.

The four of them created high-energy music together, which quickly won the hearts and minds of new generations of jazz fans, not only across the Channel. And among their admirers is none other than the famous deejay and producer Gilles Peterson: «absolutely crazy good» è was his reaction after seeing La Via del Ferro in action.
