Claudio Angeleri: FROM BE TO POPS
A concert d’autore. On the programme are famous songs written by some of the great Italian composers, from Gino Paoli to Fabio Concato, from Bruno Martino to Pino Donaggio, and made famous over the years by great national and international performers such as Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Joao Gilberto Gil, and Elvis Presley.
Extraordinary melodies that have become evergreens that have crossed styles and oceans, thanks to versions by Michel Petrucciani, Toots Thielemans, Mike Stern, and Chet Baker. The trait d’union is improvisation, through which jazz has been able to metabolise music and cultures from all over the world. With this spirit, Claudio Angeleri has created a new original project involving his longest-running group, From be to pops, which was formed in 2001 for a record that was favourably received by critics. Together with the pianist, there will be saxophonist Gabriele Comeglio, the versatile Brescian singer Paola Milzani, bassist Marco Esposito, drummer Matteo Milesi and, as a new addition, Michele Gentilini on guitar.
The arrangements keep faith with the recognisability of the melodic lines, while introducing original elements characteristic of Claudio Angeleri's pen, now more pop and funk, now more bebop and bluesy. A crossover project that during the festival “Notti di Luce” had involved, thanks to Gabriele Comeglio's big band, the authors themselves: Fabio Concato, Gino Paoli, Ron, Lucio Dalla and Roby Facchinetti.
