Italian Philharmonic Orchestra: THE HALF SEASONS
These Seasons are “half” because they interweave famous jazz standards with Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The narrative thread follows the cycle of the seasons, understood not only as a natural phenomenon, but as a metaphor for love and the human condition. A journey that reflects the parable of life: every end already contains a new beginning.
Spring
The birth, the awakening. Afro rhythms accompany the birdsong evoked by Vivaldi, while the melancholy of I’ll Remember April intertwines with the lightness and swinging joy of Smile, It’s Spring.
Summer
The heat, the tension, the storm. The sudden fury of the Vivaldian thunderstorm is juxtaposed with the tale of an African-American who sings of his plight in Caesar’s Blues, finally finding refuge in Summertime, a universal, maternal lullaby.
Autumn
The time of maturity and harvest. The feast of the grape harvest described by Vivaldi meets the colours and rhythms of a cosmopolitan city in Autumn in New York, to the sweet melancholy of a love that fades away in Autumn Leaves.
Winter
The silence, the waiting, the suspension. It opens with the Adagio from Vivaldi's Inverno, and then moves through a selection of Christmas carols – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Stille Nacht, Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls – reinterpreted in an engaging swing rhythm, between intimacy and festivity.
