Discovering Morricone
The unique tribute to the music of the great Italian composer is enriched with new, largely lesser-known but beautiful pages from the boundless repertoire of M° Morricone to give life to the new show Discovering Morricone. Not just a concert, but a journey of words, suggestions and solo performances that guide the spectator through the decades that have made Italian and international cinema and music great.
The incredible journey began among the melodies that have remained in the collective memory of generations with the evocative power of Mission, The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean, Once Upon a Time in the West, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in America, For a Few Dollars More;, Malena, and which has characterised the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra's activity over the past few seasons, continues with other works such as The Untouchables, La Califfa, The Reverse Channel, and with an important space for the great songs written for artists such as Dulce Pontes, Joan Baez and Mina in a new symphonic version.
500 soundtracks, 70 million records sold worldwide, six nominations and two Oscars won, three Grammys, four Golden Globes and a Golden Lion make Ennio Morricone a giant of music of all times. Hence the idea of the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra, a flagship of our country, to pay homage to the Maestro.
The Ensemble approached Morricone's music after important national and international collaborations: Mario Biondi, Max Gazzè, Franco Battiato, Giovanni Allevi, Renato Zero, Francesco Renga, Pooh, Baustelle, PFM, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Nile Rodgers, Sam Smith, Luis Bacalov. With more than six hundred concerts in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Holland, France, Austria, the United Kingdom and Belgium, the orchestra presents a great versatility and focus on all kinds of music, with a repertoire ranging from the best-known opera arias to world-famous film scores, from “Frozen” to “Harry Potter”.
In this tribute, soloists, first parts of important Italian theatres and symphonic institutions, such as Maestro Ferdinando Vietti's cello and Maestro Stefano Benedetti's trumpet, will take turns on stage. Special guests will be soprano Anna Delfino, a favourite with European opera audiences, who will relive the emotion of Deborah’s Theme from “Once Upon a Time in America” and violinist from the Circle du Soleil Attila Simon, who will perform the solo from “Love Affair”.
Accompanying the audience by giving voice to the characters and settings is the skill of Andrea Bartolomeo actor, director and theatre teacher. Since 1998, with Teatro Nucleo, he has performed in the most important international theatre festivals in open spaces and in the squares of Europe, South America and Asia. Since 2014, he has been working with director Alessandro Serra, with whom he has staged the award-winning MACBETTU, touring three continents since 2016, and the play “The Cherry Orchard”, touring internationally since 2019. He is the artistic director of two festivals (Giovenco Teatro Festival and Gioiosa Percussioni Festival) and of the Research Centre for the Arts of the Scene, immersed in the nature of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.
