A century and a few days will have passed since Toscanini conducted Giacomo Puccini’s final masterpiece at La Scala, bringing the performance to a halt on the very first evening at the point where the composer had left it unfinished. Bringing this passionate fairy tale to a conclusion is a puzzle that more than one person has tried to solve: the fourth riddle of Turandot.
