CATERINA CORNARO EXPERIENCE. A QUEEN TO REMEMBER A project by the Donizetti Theatre Foundation as part of the Donizetti Opera Festival 2025 in collaboration with Accademia Carrara, Angelo Mai Civic Library, Lisio Silk Art Foundation, and Museum of the History of Bergamo From October 15 to November 30, 2025 in Bergamo Opening at the Donizetti Studio of the Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo Caterina Cornaro Experience. A Queen to Remember , a multi-venue exhibition open to the public until November 30, 2025, promoted by the Donizetti Theatre Foundation as part of the Donizetti Opera 2025, in collaboration with Accademia Carrara, Angelo Mai Civic Library, Lisio Silk Art Foundation and Museum of the History of Bergamo. The experience dedicated to Caterina Cornaro, curated by Tania Cefis, Clelia Epis, Luca Loglio, Alessio Francesco Marinoni Palmieri, revolves around the opera of the same name by Gaetano Donizetti, which returns to the Bergamo theater stage after thirty years as the opening title of the Donizetti Opera 2025 festival. This return also marks the beginning of a widespread cultural project, capable of interweaving artistic and musical languages and city institutions under the banner of a fascinating female figure, suspended between history, myth, and theater. The exhibition hosted at the Donizetti Studio offers a historical-theatrical journey that guides visitors from the figure of Caterina Cornaro – Queen of Cyprus, who lived between Venice, Asolo, and the eastern Mediterranean – through the opera that Donizetti dedicated to her in 1844, up to the first modern performance according to the composer's wishes that we will see on stage this year. On display are sketches and historical images from the Iconographic Archive of the Donizetti Theatre Foundation, along with evocative costumes that document the visual and theatrical imagery linked to one of the most iconic figures in the Donizetti repertoire. Of particular significance is the section curated by the Lisio Silk Art Foundation of Florence, which has created a faithful reconstruction of Caterina Cornaro's stage costumes worn in the first Neapolitan performance of 1844, alongside the sumptuous dress that the queen wears in the famous painting by Francesco Hayez housed at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. This is a unique opportunity, as for the first time the costumes from a Donizetti premiere have been fully reconstructed, giving back to the public the aesthetic, symbolic, and narrative power of costume as a fundamental element of 19th-century theatrical language. Also on display is the stage costume, provided by Casa d'Arte Fiore, worn by soprano Denia Mazzola, who starred in the 1995 Bergamo production directed by Gianandrea Gavazzeni. The exhibition at the Donizetti Studio will be open from October 15 to November 30, 2025, every Friday and Saturday from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM (closed on Saturday, November 1), with special openings during the Donizetti Opera: Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12, and Thursday 13 November from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Thursday November 27 from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Sundays November 16, 23, and 30 from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Preview of the 47th Edition from March 19 to 22, 2026 - Concerts at Teatro Donizetti and Teatro Sociale - “Setting the Pace”: Miles & Trane 100th Celebration! Setting The Pace , setting the rhythm or setting the pace. Joe Lovano, for the third time Artistic Director of Bergamo Jazz, announces the title and the first part of the program for the 2026 edition of the Festival, which will take place from March 19 to 22 in the spirit of an extraordinary celebration: the centenary of the birth of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, seminal and iconic figures of Afro-American music. Organized by Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, with the support of Comune di Bergamo, MiC-Ministry of Culture and private sponsors, the Festival will reach its 47th edition with a packed program of concerts at Teatro Donizetti, Teatro Sociale, and other venues in the city, which will once again come alive with the myriad sounds of music that has long taken root in Bergamo. "In life, in the arts, in sciences, in sports, and in the business world, there have been individuals and collective entities that have set the pace, the rhythm, with passion and love, representing a model for generations. “Andy Warhol e la cultura pop”: è il titolo del quinto e ultimo appuntamento con le Lezioni di Storia, nuova iniziativa della Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, organizzata in collaborazione con Editori Laterza e con il sostegno di Cassa Lombarda, che sta facendo registrare un’ampia partecipazione di pubblico. Sabato 24 febbraio al Teatro Donizetti (ore 11), lo storico dell’arte Costantino D’Orazio, si soffermerà su una delle figure centrali dell’arte del Novecento, il cui pensiero ha influenzato in modo tangibile anche diversi altri mondi, dalla musica al cinema e alla moda. L’incontro verrà introdotto da Max Pavan, responsabile dell’informazione di Bergamo TV. Biglietti 10 Euro, con riduzione per le scuole. Andy Warhol ha letteralmente distrutto il principio cardine dell'arte, quello dell’irriproducibilità, attraverso la ripetizione in serie dello stesso soggetto. Svuotarne di ogni significato tradizionale la rappresentazione passando disinvoltamente dalle bottiglie di Coca-Cola ai barattoli di minestra in scatola, dagli incidenti stradali e alle sedie elettriche: quella di Andy Warhol è un'arte concepita come provocazione, un'arte "consumata" come un qualsiasi prodotto commerciale, all'insegna di un inedito concetto di icona e di nuova democrazia sociale.  Costantino D’Orazio è stato Curatore del MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma, dal 2014 al 2017, e dal gennaio di quest’anno ricopre la carica di direttore della Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria di Perugia. Collabora, inoltre, con l’Università LUISS e l’Università LINK Campus. Conduce la rubrica AR-Frammenti d’Arte su RaiNews24 e partecipa al programma Wikiradio su Radio 3. Dopo Davide Enia con il suo Italia Brasile 3 a 2, è ancora il mondo del calcio ad essere protagonista della sezione Storia, Teatro e Società della Stagione di Prosa 2023/2024 della Fondazione Teatro Donizetti: venerdì 23 febbraio (ore 20.30) è infatti in programma al Teatro Donizetti La milonga del fútbol, spettacolo che vedrà in scena Federico Buffa, giornalista, cronista sportivo, e scrittore, noto volto televisivo che racconterà le storie potenti, intrise di romanticismo e italianità, di tre grandi mancini del calcio argentino, Renato Cesarini, Omar Sivori e Diego Armando Maradona.  Regia di Pierluigi Iorio. Musiche originali di Alessandro Nidi eseguite dal vivo da Alessandro Nidi (pianoforte) e da Mascia Foschi (voce). Disegno luci di Francesco Adinolfi. Produzione International Music and Arts. Prezzi biglietti: posto unico 19 Euro, ridotto 15 Euro. «La Milonga del Fútbol è un racconto di cento anni di storia argentina, dal glorioso passato al più brillante futuro, intriso di romanticismo e passione, con radici profonde nella sto­ria moderna d’Italia; una summa di sport e musica, universalmente riconosciuti come grandi propagatori di emozioni», racconta il regista Pierluigi Iorio, «L’immagi­ne rarefatta del porto di Genova, dal quale partiva il piroscafo Mendoza e con il quale comincia lo spettacolo, ci immerge, ipso facto, nel turbinío di sentimenti contrastanti scatenato dal fenomeno dell’emigrazione italiana dei primi del Novecento. Con uno sguardo ai “conquistadores” dei secoli pre­cedenti e alle aspirazioni autoctone, via via, prendono vita sul palcoscenico eroi religio­si e divinità pagane; sacro e profano, nella terra in cui la rappresentazione teatrale è ancora oggi chiamata Función. Tra conti­nui rimandi e asimmetrie temporali, con le curve dinamiche delle vite dei protagonisti che, ineludibilmente, a un certo punto, si collegano, assistiamo alle gesta sportive di campioni senza età, incastonate nella mera­vigliosa diversità di quell’emporio mondiale chiamato Argentina, un melting pot di culture e tradizioni. Non poteva che essere il Tan­go, a volte il miglior stato d’animo per osser­vare l’arte, a tenere il ritmo, cadenzando il racconto come un respiro dell’anima». «Per questo progetto ambizioso abbiamo lavorato affinché la narrazione fosse dinamica, epica, improvvisa, gioiosa, drammatica, in una tri­dimensione relazionale e scenica, provando a non perdere mai il contatto con il tempo (cristallizzandolo, anzi, nell’esaltazione del­la memoria); amando visceralmente tutti i personaggi raccontati, dai protagonisti che vivono di pallone e sogni ai deuteragonisti che, con le loro azioni, determinano desti­ni politici e sociali; armonizzando la parola che, con la sua potenza evocativa, trasmette spunti vitali allo spettatore per alimentarne la fantasia. La Milonga del Fútbol diventa an­che uno strumento per analizzare fenomeni sociali, che parte da una ricerca qualitativa sui tre metodi di comunicazione scelti. Ascol­tiamo, dunque, il canto potente e, allo stesso tempo, suadente di Mascia Foschi; le note di velluto (che accarezzano e alimentano il rac­conto) di Alessandro Nidi, decisamente più che un pianista; le parole di Federico Buffa, interprete sopraffino della narrazione moder­na, che nel pizzicare le corde dell’anima e del cuore, ci racconta la vita che, con la sua maestria, diventa letteratura», conclude il

L’universo femminile spiato dalla serratura del bagno: è questo l’assunto attorno al quale ruota Raccontami di domani, quinto titolo della Stagione di Altri Percorsi della Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, in programma giovedì 22 febbraio al Teatro Sociale (ore 20.30). Lo spettacolo, scritto e diretto dall’argentino Cèsar Brie, figura centrale del teatro contemporaneo di ricerca, vedrà in scena le attrici Vera dalla Pasqua e Rossella Guidotti. Musica di Paolo Brie. Luci di Stefano Colonna. Scene e costumi a cura della compagnia. Produzione Agidi. Durata: 60 minuti senza intervallo. Biglietti: intero: 19 Euro, ridotto 15 Euro. Raccontami di domani racconta l’amicizia di due donne: nel bagno conversano, si sistemano, si preparano. Scoprono i cambi dei loro corpi, si confessano, si lavano il corpo e l’anima. In questo bagno gli oggetti più umili diventano compagni di scena. Attraverso il percorso delle vite di due ami­che, Cèsar Brie crea una poesia scenica sull'essere donna ed il trascorrere del tempo. «La proposta è al passo con l'epoca attuale. L'universo femminile occupa il centro della scena. L'Io stabilisce un ponte con il Noi; ciò che è pub­blico in connessione con ciò che è privato: è anche un tratto distintivo del regista. Un viaggio nelle vite comuni che genera identifi­cazione ed emozioni intense. Niente è fuori dall'ordinario. O tutto lo è, perché, come as­sicura una delle due donne, la quotidianità è sacra. Accade qualcosa di speciale con gli oggetti negli spettacoli di Brie, che iniziò la sua vita artistica nella poesia e sembra non separarla mai dal teatro. Il testo di per sé è poetico. Possiede bellezza, musicalità e rit­mo. Si crea una poesia scenica sull’es­sere donna, il ciclo della vita ed il passare del tempo, che commuove il pubblico», osserva Daniela Yaccar. César Brie nasce a Buenos Aires, Argentina. Arriva in Italia a 18 anni con la Comuna Bai­res, gruppo teatrale di cui è cofondatore. Si separa dalla Comuna nel 1975 e comincia a sviluppare un’arte apolide, a stretto contat­to con le molte realtà incontrate in una vita passata per scelta in esilio. Nel 1975 crea a Milano il Collettivo teatrale Tupac Amaru. Dal 1981 al 1990 lavora insieme a Iben Nagel Rasmussen nel Gruppo Farfa e poi nell'Odin Teatret in Danimarca nelle vesti di autore, regista e attore. Nel 1991 fonda in Bolivia il Teatro de Los Andes. Con questo gruppo ha creato spettacoli che partono dalla storia o dai classici, ma calati profondamente nell’at­tualità: una serie di lavori esemplari destinati a girare il mondo. Oggi, Cesar Brie è ancora in Italia svolgendo attività  come pedagogo e come autore e attore.

Nell’arco della Stagione si sono svolti anche numerosi progetti dedicati al coinvolgimento di studenti e alla formazione di personale tecnico. Nel loro insieme le proposte della Fondazione Teatro Donizetti mirano a soddisfare il desiderio di avvicinarsi al mondo del teatro da parte di pubblici diversi, di tutte le età, con uno sforzo produttivo che necessità di risorse oggi reperibili anche attraverso l’Art Bonus, sempre più sentito proprio dai cittadini non solo come un bonus fiscale ma anche come un’opportunità per esprimere riconoscenza verso le istituzioni del proprio territorio e condividere i valori della cultura. Il Concorso Art Bonus è organizzato dal Ministero della cultura, ALES Spa e Promo PA Fondazione – LuBeC allo scopo di promuovere una sempre più diffusa conoscenza dell’Art Bonus (legge n. 106/2014), la misura fiscale introdotta per incentivare le donazioni a favore della cultura attraverso un beneficio fiscale del 65%. È stato ideato nel 2016 con l’obiettivo di premiare l’impegno di quanti, beneficiari e mecenati, rendono possibile attraverso l’Art Bonus il recupero e la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale del nostro Paese. Ogni anno sul portale governativo Art Bonus vengono selezionati i progetti che nell’ultimo anno hanno chiuso con successo una loro raccolta fondi Art Bonus, e questi progetti vengono inseriti nella pagina del sito dedicata al concorso dove avvengono le votazioni nella prima fase, cui segue, dal 4 al 18 marzo, una finale che si tiene solo sui canali social di Art Bonus, alla quale partecipano i 40 progetti più votati considerando le due categorie.

As we wait for the autumn, there are two events not to be missed: next Friday, 5 May, at the Donizetti Theatre, Francesco Micheli, together with some guests, will present the festival programme with the conference-show Donizetti Revolution vol. 9. While on Saturday, 3 June the Donizetti Night will finally come back after the pandemic. The 2023 edition of the Donizetti Opera festival will be a special one, as the now well-established structure of the festival will be enriched by the initiatives for Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture, whose thematic areas and concept will run through the productions on several levels. The three weekends are extended and begin on Thursday with LU OpeRave (16, 23 and 30 November) the new creation inspired by Donizetti’s most famous work, which will debut in a non-theatrical venue, with space for conviviality and with a view to the present and innovation. Then at the Donizetti Theatre we will stage two extremely rare titles by Gaetano Donizetti – Il diluvio universale (17 and 25 November, 3 December) and Alfredo il Grande (19 and 24 November) – followed by Johann Simon Mayr’s farce Il piccolo compositore di musica (2 December) in its modern premiere. On the other hand, Lucie de Lammermoor will be staged at the Teatro Sociale (18 and 26 November, 1 December). This work contains Donizetti’s most famous music and, at the same time, presents it in a rare version by the author himself, the performance of which is the main task of a festival, especially when an opera is part of the repertoire of theatres all around the world and is considered one of the paradigms of Romantic melodrama. The study and research of Donizetti’s legacy and stylistic uniqueness, entrusted to the scientific department of the Donizetti Theatre Foundation directed by Paolo Fabbri, always plays a pivotal role, as they design the festival programme, choose the editions and prepare the philological restitution of the musical texts. Verification of the Super Green Pass will be carried out at the entrance to the theatre by the Fondazione Teatro Donizetti's staff and will be done by showing the QR code of the green certificate and a valid identity document. Those who are not in possession of either of these documents will not be allowed to attend the performance or visit.
