Sounds of Joy<\/em><\/strong>: <\/em>is the title Joe Lovano<\/strong> wanted to imprint on the 2025 edition of the Bergamo Jazz Festival, the second under the Artistic Direction of the famous American saxophonist. Organized by Fondazione Teatro Donizetti<\/strong>, with the support of the City of Bergamo<\/strong>, MIC-Ministry of Culture<\/strong> and private sponsors, the Festival will be held March 20-23<\/strong>, with concerts at Teatro Donizetti and Teatro Sociale flanked by numerous events scattered throughout the City, which for the 46th time will come alive with the thousands of sounds of a music that has long put down firm and deep roots in Bergamo. “Sounds of Joy <\/em>means the celebration of a musical community born among the people for the people. The celebration of jazz from its origins until today. The dance of life, love and spirit unites us as one,” specifies Joe Lovano, “The idea of jazz improvisation has taken many paths over the years and is a beautiful art form with many directions and influences. This idea has inspired the most innovative and influential musicians in the music world on a global scale.The multigenerational and multicultural sounds that animate the joy of hearing music will come to us through the passion and expressiveness of all the artists we have invited for the 46th edition of the Bergamo jazz festival.” Unfailingly faithful to the Festival’s natural international vision, the 2025 edition of Bergamo Jazz will thus once again be a wide-open window on the composite scene of an expressive universe that continues to show signs of vitality in its being an ideal meeting point between different musics and cultures. While numerous initiatives carried out in collaboration with as many realities of the territory are being defined, including meetings with schools and the “Scintille di Jazz” section dedicated to new talents, the bill of concerts at the Donizetti Theater and the Teatro Sociale is already finalized in detail, so that the subscription campaign and ticket sales can begin. In fact, old subscribers will be able to renew from December 3 to 21, 2024 (change seats from January 8 to 10, 2025), with right of first refusal for concerts at the Sociale. New subscriptions will then be available from January 14, 2025, with the possibility of purchasing Sociale tickets as well, while tickets for individual evenings at the Donizetti will go on sale from January 28. <\/p>\n

Jazz at Donizetti<\/strong><\/p>\n

Venerd\u00ec 21 marzo, la prima delle tre serate in abbonamento al Teatro Donizetti, con inizio alle ore 20.30, amatissime sia dai bergamaschi sia da chi proviene da ogni parte d\u2019Italia e da oltre confine, sar\u00e0 aperta dal duo formato da un fuoriclasse del contrabbasso come Dave Holland<\/strong> e da Lionel Loueke<\/strong>, uno dei chitarristi pi\u00f9 innovativi apparsi sulle scene del jazz negli ultimi decenni. Una coppia artistica di spessore che funger\u00e0 da \u201capripista\u201d al concerto della Wayne Shorter Legacy<\/strong>, ovvero il pianista Danilo P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, il contrabbassista John Patitucci<\/strong> e il batterista Brian Blade<\/strong>, che per quasi 25 anni hanno condiviso con il grande sassofonista e compositore scomparso nel marzo 2023 una cruciale esperienza collaborativa. Special guest del gruppo sar\u00e0 il sassofonista Ravi Coltrane<\/strong>, musicista che ha saputo personalizzare sia gli influssi musicali paterni che quelli shorteriani, senza tuttavia ricalcarne pedissequamente i modelli. Anche la serata di sabato 22 vedr\u00e0 di scena un autentico supergruppo: The Cookers<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Della band, che ben rappresenta una fetta consistente di quello che viene comunemente inteso come mainstream jazz<\/em>, fanno parte sette veterani di infinite battaglie a suon di jazz a tutto tondo, con profonde radici nel passato ma ben calate nel presente: i trombettisti Eddie Henderson<\/strong> e David Weiss, <\/strong>i sassofonisti Azar Lawrence<\/strong> e Donald Harrison<\/strong>, il pianista George Cables<\/strong>, il contrabbassista Cecil McBee <\/strong>e il batterista Billy Hart<\/strong>. Il concerto dei The Cookers sar\u00e0 preceduto da quello del pi\u00f9 internazionale dei jazzisti italiani, Enrico Rava<\/strong>. Il trombettista e flicornista, gi\u00e0 Direttore Artistico di Bergamo Jazz dal 2012 al 2015, sar\u00e0 alla guida dei suoi \u201cFearless Five\u201d, formazione di recente costituzione che allinea il trombonista Matteo Paggi, il chitarrista Francesco Diodati, il contrabbassista Francesco Ponticelli e la batterista Evita Polidoro. Domenica 23, l\u2019ultima serata al Donizetti sar\u00e0 scandita dalla prima apparizione sul palcoscenico del principale teatro cittadino del chitarrista Marc Ribot<\/strong> e dal ritorno dopo dieci anni di una delle pi\u00f9 carismatiche voci femminili, Dianne Reeves<\/strong>. Marc Ribot, tra i pi\u00f9 immaginifici specialisti delle sei corde della scena musicale contemporanea, si esibir\u00e0 a capo del suo nuovissimo quartetto \u201cHurry Red Telephone\u201d – con Ava Mendoza<\/strong> alla chitarra, Sebastian Steinberg<\/strong> al contrabbasso e Chad Taylor<\/strong> alla batteria – che promette sonorit\u00e0 fuori dagli schemi.<\/p>\n

La cantante di Detroit porr\u00e0 quindi il sigillo finale a Bergamo Jazz 2025 insieme alla sua rodata band che schiera il pianista John Beasley<\/strong>, il chitarrista brasiliano Romero Lubambo<\/strong>, il contrabbassista Reuben Rogers<\/strong> e il batterista Terreon Gully<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Jazz at the Social<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anche nel 2025 saranno due gli appuntamenti al Teatro Sociale di Citt\u00e0 Alta, il primo dei quali, la sera di gioved\u00ec 20 marzo (sempre ore 20.30,) proporr\u00e0 dapprima il trio \u201cTributes\u201d del pianista Antonio Fara\u00f2<\/strong>, musicista di grande esperienza, apprezzatissimo anche all\u2019estero, che per questa sua prima partecipazione a Bergamo Jazz avr\u00e0 al suo fianco il contrabbassista Ameen Saleem<\/strong> e il batterista Jeff Ballard<\/strong>, gi\u00e0 partner di Chick Corea e Brad Melhdau e ben conosciuto dal pubblico del Festival. A seguire, Lizz Wright<\/strong>, tra le pi\u00f9 intense voci nere di oggi, che, grazie a una spiccata forza interpretativa, meglio riflettono l\u2019humus culturale afro-americano muovendosi con naturalezza tra jazz, blues, gospel, canzone d\u2019autore. Domenica 23 (alle ore 17.00) Bergamo Jazz 2025 amplier\u00e0 i propri orizzonti proponendo un formidabile trio che trae linfa vitale dalla commistione fra improvvisazione, experimental rock<\/em> e altro ancora, oltre che dalla straordinaria padronanza strumentale dei suoi componenti. Stick Men<\/strong>, questo il nome del gruppo, vedr\u00e0 in campo il bassista e massimo virtuoso dello Stick Tony Levin<\/strong>, uomo di fiducia di Peter Gabriel e di tanti altri, oltre che membro di varie edizioni dei King Crimson dal 1981 in avanti, il chitarrista tedesco Markus Reuter<\/strong> e il batterista Pat Mastelotto<\/strong>, che i pi\u00f9 conoscono per averlo ascoltato nelle ultime edizioni degli stessi King Crimson.<\/p>\n

Come gi\u00e0 accennato, il programma Bergamo Jazz 2025 sar\u00e0 completato da appuntamenti ospitati, anche la mattina e fino a tarda sera, in altri teatri, musei e locali portando i Sounds of Joy <\/em>della musica jazz a contatto con il tessuto cittadino, contagiandolo con il suo spirito di avventura, con il suo messaggio universale di pace e di dialogo tra popoli diversi.
