We have developed so many strategies to defend our peace of mind… What if the question was not how to hide from conflict, but rather how to learn to manage it? How do we build peace without hoping that, simply, it will happen? Being peaceful and being at peace are two conditions that cannot coexist in our world; living together is exhausting. <\/h6>\n
Levana and Atom, the two elderly protagonists of The Other Side<\/em>, inhabit – literally – the conflict. They live on a war boundary, collecting and burying corpses from both sides. When peace is declared, a guard breaks through their cabin and draws a physical boundary across the room: the bed becomes a border zone, the bathroom belongs to one state, the kitchen to the other. The border then becomes an existential theme not so much in the struggle to exercise a right to property, but as a place that requires exchange, proposals and renunciations in order to continue to exist and – somehow – to love each other. A place that requires intelligence and humanity to stay there, seeking life and not death. <\/h6>\n
The proposition we are immersed in is one: put up walls, separate, isolate. At best: flee. We don’t know how to put up the boundaries, we don’t have the strength to deal with conflicts, and things end up going unbridled. Irony and the pleasure of play are the keystone and tools of the job.Levana and Atom are not tragic heroes. They are two stubborn old men who argue, negotiate, poke each other and love each other-what better solution than fun do we have?
\nWhat can be done, then? What if we discovered that borders are possibilities for construction instead of exclusion? Certainly not to get used to war. On the contrary: to rediscover that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to manage it. That peace is an exercise, a practice. Making peace is more tiring than making war, but it is worth it in the end. <\/h6>\n

To accompany girls and boys to the viewing of the play, the workshop delves into reading the book Fahrenheit 451<\/em> by Ray Bradbury in order to lead the class to question the symbolic meaning of “burning books.” Fahrenheit<\/em>‘s science fiction, imagining a society in which critical sense is eliminated and the view of the world restricted to one’s present so that the link with the past is erased, becomes a historical and civic reflection on being a community. <\/h6>\n
Full reading of the novel is mandatory for the workshop to take place.<\/h6>\n
The two-hour workshop will consist of three parts:
\n– Participatory presentation of the novel with the class
\nAn Isrec staff member will hold the thread of a dialogue in which girls and boys will take the floor. This will be an exercise to share knowledge, themes and curiosities about the book.
\n– Group work
\nThe class will be divided into groups and each group will be given an excerpt from the book to reflect on, of which girls and boys should highlight the most significant lines and summarize them in one word.
\n– Construction of a concept map
\nEach group will be asked to connect the theme extracted from the quotation to both the past and the present, trying to search their own memory for something they have studied and to search their own experience for something that everyone is experiencing personally or that we are experiencing as a collective. Not all the boxes will be filled in, but the discussion among the groups, led by Isrec staff members, will help to drop the themes raised by the book into each person’s schooling and life experience. <\/h6>\n
The goal of the workshop is an active reading of the book, to rediscover memory as a connection between experiences and knowledge, deposited in books, as a possibility to make our imagery and sensibility more elastic and less stereotypical.<\/h6>\n

Eumenides. All all of the father’s I am <\/em> by ATIR and directed by Serena Sinigaglia, is inspired by Eumenides<\/em>, the last tragedy of theOresteia<\/em> by Aeschylus, in which the passage from an archaic justice, embodied by the Furies – monstrous, ancient beings, “old girls” dominated by the need for revenge and the sacredness of blood ties – to a new justice, based on order, law and the institution of the court, is recounted.
\nIt is the clash between two principles, the feminine and the masculine, present in every human being: two forces in perpetual conflict, on whose unstable balance our societies are still founded today.
\nEumenides<\/em> stages the first courtroom in Western history. At the center of the trial is Orestes, little more than a boy, accused of matricide. Orestes represents the fragility of the human being, his fear, his survival instinct. He cannot really take responsibility for his actions: he only seeks to save himself.
\nThe birth of democracy thus coincides with an ambiguous and deeply political act: the acquittal of a matricide and the establishment of a new patriarchal order, which replaces the logic of blood with that of law and power. <\/h6>\n
During meetings with students we will address the big questions that run through the text, looking at its relevance and political force. We will try to understand why this tragedy continues to speak to us today and try to approach it through theatrical play and improvisation.
\nHow is anger controlled? What happens when the desire for revenge is repressed? What do we give up in the name of order and peace? What force is silenced and where does it continue to manifest? What does it mean to transform from Erinyes to Eumenides? <\/h6>\n
The workshop aims to offer students a space for reflection and direct experience, in which theater becomes a tool for interrogating the present through one of the foundational texts of our culture.<\/h6>\n

To be or not to be “sick” of Shakespeare today? Tight tights, stern gaze, set voice and skull in hand: Shakespeare’sHamlet<\/em> is not only probably the Bard’s most famous and quoted play, but a true symbol (or stereotype?) of his entire output. Between film transpositions of all kinds and more or less faithful staging, the “sacred text” of English theater is still an ideal starting point for discovering themes and languages of the Elizabethan stage and its playwright par excellence. More: the anxieties, doubts, but also the great moral strength of the Prince of Denmark, are often considered a faithful mirror of a timeless youth, in which every student will inevitably end up finding himself. The meeting with operator Stefano Benedetti, an expert on Shakespearean dramaturgy, will therefore be a journey of discovery, contextualization and actualization of the text and its representations, from the days of the Globe Theatre to Leonardo Lidi’s surreal and visionary interpretation staged at the Donizetti Theatre. Moments of critical analysis, scenic reading and socio-historical framework will accompany the classes beyond all clich\u00e9s about William Shakespeare, to fully immerse themselves in a founding drama of live performance, capable of renewing itself through the centuries, without ever losing its identity and storytelling power. <\/h6>\n

To be or not to be. We have all thought about it at least once, sitting on the bed or on a bench in the park. Yet standing next to those who think this now, at 14, 15, 16, is difficult. We tell ourselves it’s just the confusion of adolescence, that we all go through it and we all (almost) survived. But what happens when embodying those same anxieties is the Prince of Denmark? <\/h6>\n
Hamlet is a son, he is in love, he is alone. Two opposing and devastating forces animate him: love and the desire for revenge. Is it at once doubt and fundamentalism, to be willing to do anything to…? As long as doubt inhabits him he remains human – he questions, hesitates, suffers. But as soon as he is certain of the truth all that thinking takes away, giving way to blind action. It is he alone who knows, he alone who sees what others ignore: loneliness radicalizes him. Hamlet turns into a war machine. The love that moves him – for his father, for Ophelia, for a justice he feels is his – becomes in time indistinguishable from revenge. In the end they all die. He who stops doubting stops being free. Doubt is not weakness: it is the only chance we have to remain human. <\/h6>\n

In the history of mankind, never have as many generations coexisted as those who inhabit the planet today: never have we been so many, never have we been so old.
\nOften, when we talk about the climate crisis, we think with intention about the future: about the adults we will be, the children we (won’t) have, what world will remain in the hands of those who remain. Yet, sometimes the feeling is that more than a forward-looking talk, it is an attempt to postpone the change a little further, to pass the potato – the Earth – hot potato to someone else: because in the present there are more important things to think about, because environmentalism is something you learn as a child and forget as an adult.
\nIt is no coincidence that Green Days<\/em> is the story of two generations comparing: Marco and Emma, father and daughter, Millenial and Gen Z. On one side an adult with a precarious life, on the other a girl with a passion for ecology: at the center is a job offer for a fossil company that will change their lives. The ideological conflict between an environmentalist and a realist turns into that between daughter and father, bringing with it contradictions, accusations, unspoken words, and misunderstandings. The play then becomes an opportunity to explore questions often central to the debate around the climate crisis: what space of responsibility do individual choices have in collective fates? How many complexities and interconnections are linked to the climate crisis? What are the reasons for the need for radical activism? How much does the desire to save the world burn and how easily can it be extinguished when the prevailing feeling is that there is no alternative, that a choice is not really possible? And it is from these and other questions that we would like to start. <\/h6>\n
Resuming the work started in the last two years around The Trials<\/em> and Ilva Football Club<\/em>, a path is proposed to students and students that, starting from the themes at the center of Green <\/em>Days<\/em>, develops a shared reflection through different stages of in-depth analysis and activation, to stimulate the development of greater awareness and a critical spirit towards the social and environmental issues addressed.<\/h6>\n
In the first class meeting<\/strong>, starting with references to current events and the insights offered by the form and content of the play, an initial activity will be proposed in preparation for the viewing of Green Days<\/em>. We will ask how this small story of family conflict and love tells us about much larger, yet very close, choices and destinies: what color is the future of our world in the shadow of the climate crisis? And we, what trace can and will we leave on the canvas?
\nThe experience will then continue with an activity in collaboration with a local entity engaged in environmental protection<\/strong>, from social gardens, to entities dealing with circular economy or sustainable agriculture. Projects will be proposed as close as possible to individual institutions to enable students to learn, mainly through a hands-on activity, what the area is doing to stop the climate crisis and to respect the environment and the rights of individuals.
\nThe Viewing of the Performance<\/strong> Will be Followed by a Meeting with the Company<\/strong>, to Delve Deeper into the Process of Creating the Show Itself and Stimulate a Dialogue between Students and Artists.

Schools are invited to attend an in-depth session where they will have the opportunity to learn about the experiences of staff members at CUAV La Svolta\u2014a support center for men who have committed abuse\u2014and of staff members at the Aiuto Donna anti-violence center, which works alongside women to raise awareness and combat gender-based violence.<\/h6>\n
