Sweden, Cuban, Germany: the unusual geographic triangulation has given life to one of the most brilliant jazz pianists trio currently in circulation, who performs in Bergamo for the first time, on the wave of a growing success throughout Europe, also witnessed by numerous prizes and awards.
The Swedish pianist Martin Tingvall, the Cuban double bass player Omar Rodriguez Calvo and the German drummer Jurgen Spiegel released their sever album, Cirklar last year: 12 tracks that are just as many musical stories to think about and get involved with.
The expressive ingredients are those that have made the fortune of Tingvall Trio – rhythmic energy, melodic sense, thematic fragrance – blended together with even greater incisiveness, and obviously maturity, than in the past. The Tingvall Trio is today an absolutely clean musical machine in all its ingredients, driven by a constant instrumental interchange that springs from an enviable empathy among its components.
Opening act ERMANNO NOVALI TRIO
The trio of Ermanno Novali is one of the groups that has shone during the last edition of Bergamo Jazz, under the “Scintille di Jazz” section.
Having divided his studies between classical piano and improvisation (at the CDpM in Bergamo), Ermanno Novali brought both backgrounds into this personal formation. It therefore goes without saying that the trio moves between typical experiences of European jazz, impromptu improvisation and the Afro-American tradition. As demonstrated by the recent CD Passacaglia, which also features a famous pop-song (“The Boxer” by Simon & Garfunkel) and a famous jazz standard like “Dear Old Stockholm”.
