Stefano Bollani is at home in Bergamo: he has played several times inside and outside the jazz festival, playing solo piano, with Rava and Fresu, with his Visionaries, with the Americans Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard, in trio with the Danish Jesper Bodilsen and Morten Lund, as a duo with the singer Irene Grandi, proposing projects on Frank Zappa and on Naples (the first Bergamo performance dates back to the 1999 edition of Bergamo Jazz, in a duo with saxophonist Mauro Negri). However, he has never performed as a “classical” pianist.
The prestigious International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo will bridge the gap and, as part of its fifty-sixth edition, will present him to its audience and to that of Bergamo Jazz together with the Orchestra Filarmonica di Bologna conducted by the Estonian Kristjan Järvi. In the set list, in addition to a piece by Järvi (“Aurora”, for orchestra) and one by Bollani (“Azzurro”), there will be two compositions whose popularity has crossed the boundary of classical music: George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”. It is certain that even with these two “monuments” Bollani will know how to express his volcanic talent.”
