ROBERTO OTTAVIANO “Eternal Love”
‘Eternal Love’ is a tribute to Africa, its culture, music and people at a time of migration and racial intolerance that seems to take us back to the America of the 1950s and 1960s, of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. With his quintet, the Apulian saxophonist Roberto Ottaviano focuses on music as medicine for the soul and as a cement for collective identities through a selection of compositions by Don Cherry, Abdullah Ibrahim, Charlie Haden, John Coltrane, Dewey Redman, Elton Dean as well as original pieces. In recent years, Ottaviano has returned to his rightful place on the national jazz scene. This is evidenced by his brilliant achievements in Musica Jazz’s Top Jazz 2020 as a musician, both as a group and notably with the double album Resonance & Rhapsodies. But the most important thing is the quality of his music, of lucidly calibrated projects and of happy encounters with important musical partners, clarinettist Marco Colonna, a sort of alter ego of Ottaviano, pianist Giorgio Pagoric, the rhythm section made up of Giorgio Vendola on double bass and Zeno De Rossi on drums. All of them are well-tuned in to the same musical and human wavelength as the leader.
