The intertwining of the guitars strings of Roberto Cecchetto and Lionel Loueke illuminates the second of the two Bergamo Jazz 2020 concerts in the beautiful former Oratorio di San Lupo. The two guitarists, using their respective backgrounds, have been artistically dating for years (sometimes involving the American drummer Nasheet Waits), giving life each time to a close, equal, precious dialogue.
Roberto Cecchetto, from Milan, has long been part of Enrico Rava’s Electric Five, also collaborating with Stefano Bollani, Lee Konitz, Richard Galliano, Paolo Fresu, Gianluca Petrella, Giovanni Guidi, Tino Tracanna, with another renowned instrumental colleague like the Scandinavian Eivind Aarset and others.
Reliable partner of Herbie Hancock, Lionel Loueke, originally from Benin, has also played, among many others, with Terence Blanchard, Charlie Haden, Angelique Kidjo, Kenny Garrett, Marcus Miller and Cassandra Wilson. His instrumental style has absorbed both the tradition of West Africa and the more proper language of jazz.
