PAOLO FRESU QUINTET
Paolo Fresu’s quintet was founded in 1984 by the leader himself and pianist Roberto Cipelli; today it is an established part of the history of Italian and European jazz, as one of the longest-surviving groups. Their first recording was Ostinato in 1985, followed a year later by Inner Voices, which featured American saxophonist Dave Liebman. Since then the quintet has worked constantly with recordings and concerts: in the context of the numerous projects which Paolo Fresu has led or collaborated in over the years, this group remains a fixed reference point which can always be relied upon to express a dynamic vision of jazz, with close links to modern tradition but at the same time constantly evolving. All the members of the quintet have their own expressive identities, which come together to embody a collective musical voice.
