LUCA AQUINO – GIOVANNI GUIDI Duo
The new Italian jazz couple: Luca Aquino on trumpet and Giovanni Guidi on piano – two talents with a wealth of international experience behind them, blossoming at different times (the former was born in 1974, the latter eleven years later) and who met while cultivating the same passions. One in particular out of the many – the song. In reality, both describe themselves as “missing singers”. It is no coincidence that their début album, published by the magazine ‘Musica Jazz’ as a supplement to last May’s issue, is entitled Amore Bello, from the song of the same name by Claudio Baglioni and is found alongside Luigi Tenco’s ‘Un giorno dopo l’altro’, and more usual jazz standards such as ‘Over The Rainbow’, ‘I Fall In Love Too Easily’ and ‘What A Wonderful World’ of Louis Armstrong fame, as well as pieces written by the two artists themselves.
Luca Aquino is from Campania. His love affair with the trumpet is not a conventional one, in fact, he started playing it at the age of nineteen and is self-taught. Shortly afterwards he abandoned it, only to take it up again thanks to his love of the sounds of Miles Davis and Chet Baker.
Giovanni Guidi is Umbrian. His talent scout was none other than Enrico Rava, a man who has discovered many talents and with whom the pianist from Foligno has been playing for many years on some of the most renowned stages in the world. Alongside Rava, as well as on his own behalf, Giovanni Guidi has recorded for ECM.
