Green Days is the story of two generations in comparison. It is the story of Marco and Emma, father and daughter, Millenial and Gen Z. She, often more parent than daughter, busy like all young people between school, work, smartphones and a life of passions and friendships. One of these passions is environmentalism. He lives a precarious life, until one day he receives a job offer that could change their lives: a permanent position as a security guard at a natural gas distribution company. Marco is at a crossroads, but finally accepts the job.
From then on, everything changes. Emma changes. What seems to be the beginning of an adolescent rebellion is, in truth, the beginning of an activism that becomes more and more extreme day by day. The ideological conflict between an environmentalist and a realist turns into a conflict between daughter and father, between things unsaid, feelings never expressed, “I love you” never spoken.

Directing notes

Today, talking about the environment, climate change, sustainability and “green” in general seems to have become the easiest and yet most difficult thing to do. Although these are topics that have only recently deserved new public attention, they nevertheless seem to us to be already “span” difficult to digest. The risks are many, especially if one wants to bring these themes to the theatre, a place where any artistic operation in this regard walks a fine line between the programmatic and the rhetorical.
Well. But they are very important themes.
You could say that they are “the Themes” on which the cardinal principles of our civilisation rest: our place in the world, or rather, our space in the world. And so we decided to take the risk.
In the relationship between father and daughter, truth and false consciousness are almost indistinguishable.
Emma’s activism is both a reason for living and a justification and refuge for the anxieties and fears of a teenager.
The father, Marco, has devoted much of his youth to raising Emma: what better excuse than a daughter who arrived early, not to face the challenges, responsibilities and duties of adult life?
How the world we live in reacts to our life choices will condition our future, that of our children and future generations. Impossible to stay out of it, impossible not to take a position. However, what if underneath these positions we hide our egoic need to save ourselves from the pettiness, the limitations of our society? Ours, Emma and Marco will discover, is a society of complexities, which as soon as they try to face – as we do too, without realising it, every day – will make them stumble over their own contradictions.
