Liquid Identities is a quintet born from an idea by the clarinettist Federico Calcagno within the lively Amsterdam jazz scene. Its aim is to explore new compositions that reflect research on combinations of various influences, from chamber music to jazz of the sixties and contemporary, to Carnatic tradition.
The name of the group is inspired by the vision of modernity analysed and described by the sociologist Zygmunt Bauman in the essay Modernity Liquid. The members of the band, although from four different countries (Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece) are united by the same Mediterranean culture.
The quintet won the second absolute prize in the prestigious international Keep an Eye 2019 competition.
