BEFORE THE STORM
|
Around PRIMA DEL TEMPORALE |
In an inversion of the perception of time typical of dreams, an old actor, in the half-hour that separates him from going on stage to play the leading role in Strindberg's Temporale, finds himself reliving moments from his own life in an endless time. The soundtrack of the reality of a theatre that is coming alive outside his dressing room becomes the pretext and the sometimes light-hearted and sometimes moved invitation to wander and even to converse with the ghosts of his own past, in a mingling without temporal logic where one sound evokes another a laugh brings back a moment of joy a long silence to a loss distant in time.
Massimo Popolizio wanted to skirt around the figure of the actor with the delicacy with which one tries to unveil secrets that still want to remain mysterious and offer a portrait of an artist that breaks away from any celebratory intent. In a set design with a strong evocative impact, where sound and images create an imaginary dialogue with the protagonist, we witness the long journey towards that “Temporale” that is experienced as a’last destination not yet reached but just postponed.
Orsini let himself be guided by Popolizio with the confidence of the old actor who entrusts the younger one with the task of recounting fragments of his life and the history of our country from the post-war period to the present day.
