The beautiful setting of the Ex-Oratory of San Lupo hosts a solo cello concert halfway between execution and improvisation. The musician is the German Anja Lechner, a name well known to those who follow the ECM’s record events. The cellist from Kassel has in fact recorded for the German label several albums with the Rosamunde Quartett, of which she was one of the founders, with the Argentine bandoneonist Dino Saluzzi, with whom she has been collaborating since 1998, with the French pianist Francois Couturier, the Greek pianist Vassilis Tsabropoulos, the Argentine guitarist Pablo Marquez and others. She has also participated in the Il Pergolese project, which involved vocalist Maria Pia De Vito, percussionist Michele Rabbia and Couturier. Among her favourite composers are Tigran Mansurian, Valentin Silvestrov, Gurdjieff, Komitas and Mompou. Her vast interests are therefore at the base of an instrumental and expressive versatility allowing her to easily pass from written to improvised notes.
