ALEXANDER HAWKINS 'Dialect Quintet'
ALEXANDER HAWKINS “Dialect Quintet”
The Dialect Quintet è one of the projects conceived by WeStart, the production centre of the Novara Jazz festival. It is led by one of the most internationally acclaimed European pianists today: the Englishman Alexander Hawkins. The musical ideas of the influential leader are united by four young talents who have already been appreciated in many different contexts: Argentinian saxophonist Camila Nebbia, guitarist Giacomo Zanus, double bassist Ferdinando Romano and drummer Francesca Remigi.
Young collaborator of Anthony Braxton, Louis Moholo-Moholo, with whom he performed at Bergamo Jazz 2016, Mulatu Astatke and Roberto Ottaviano, Hawkins is widely recognised as one of the most distinctive composers of his generation, as well as one of the most sought-after pianists. He can be heard live and on disc with a wide range of creative musicians, including Nicole Mitchell, Tomeka Reid, Sofia Jernberg, Shabaka Hutchings and Evan Parker, to name but a few.
Originally from Buenos Aires, long-time Berlin resident Camila Nebbia è saxophonist, composer, improviser and visual artist. She has collaborated with Marilyn Crispell, Michael Formanek, Angelica Sanchez, Randy Peterson, Tom Rainey, Kit Downes and many others. For the American label Relative Pitch he released the solo sax album Una ofrenda a la ausencia.

Giacomo Zanus is one of the most interesting Italian guitarists of the last generation: he takes inspiration from different musical contexts, from jazz to folk, post-rock, minimalism and electroacoustic music. Best new Italian talent in Musica Jazz's Top Jazz 2023, Ferdinando Romano combines his classical training with a passion for improvised music and for synthesisers and electronic music, regularly producing both as a leader and sideman. A versatile drummer, composer and innovative improviser, Francesca Remigi has received numerous awards: her artistic talent is among the most sought-after in the field of experimental jazz. She is involved in numerous groups and projects, including the Gogoducks trio.
