Lost River is the title of the album recorded in January 2019 at the ArteSuono Studio in Udine, then released by the ECM, by the percussionist Michele Rabbia, by the trombonist Gianluca Petrella and by the Norwegian guitarist Eivind Aarset. A disc that is placed in the aesthetic and discographic catalogue of the German house, escaping the definitions “jazz” or “not Jazz” and highlighting an original, stimulating research on sound, also due to the use of electronic instruments.
Petrella has joined the consolidated Rabbia-Aarset duo, thus giving rise to new dynamics and new balances. The result is a fascinating music, evocative of landscapes suspended in time and space, never merely descriptive.
Michela Rabbia, born in Turin but then moved to Rome and therefore currently residing in Paris, is one of the most imaginative drummers/percussionists on stage today. Former founding member of the Aires Tango, he boasts participations in various other projects, including Il Pergolese, conceived by Maria Pia De Vito.
Adventurous guitar alchemist, Eivind Aarset is a leading exponent of Northern European jazz. He collaborates, among others, with Nile Petter Molvær, Tigran Hamasian and Andy Sheppard.
Involved by Jovanotti for his recent summer tour on the beaches of Italy, Gianluca Petrella is one of the most internationally acclaimed trombonists: his name has been featured in the Down Beat referendum for years.
