Inauguration of the photo-exhibition
CLOSED SESSION
by Jimmy Katz
edited by Marco Pierini and Luciano Rossetti

Jimmy Katz is one of the most important international jazz photographers. Born in New York in 1957, he
participated with his images on more than 350 discs, also making over 200 magazine covers and hundreds
of editorial articles. Specializing in portraits, often set in the streets of his city, Jimmy Katz has
photographed great masters such as Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett,
Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and exponents of today’s jazz currents, such
as Brad Mehldau, Robert Glasper, Mary Halvorson, Esperanza Spalding and Miguel Zenon. For Jimmy
Katz, each image constitutes a close dialogue with the musician and the city of New York, perceived as
an articulated but unitary organism, regulated by the pulsing of a heart that dictates time to those who
play in theatres and clubs, in homes, along the streets, in the subway stations, in the squares.
The same American photographer says: “These portraits were made in a similar way to how musicians
produce their music in a recording studio. In a closed session “.
The exhibition will be open to the public from the 19th to the 22nd of March | the 28th and 29th of March | the 4th and 5th of April (from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm)
